Our
Story
A
Heritage of Grace
Christ
Lutheran Church (CLC), officially registered as
LCM - Christ Lutheran Church, Setapak, is a congregation
of the Lutheran
Church in Malaysia (LCM).
Since 1964, God has faithfully led our church
to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and serve
the Setapak community through worship, education,
missions and compassionate outreach.
For
more than six decades, we have witnessed God's
faithfulness across generations. Our story is
about ordinary people serving an extraordinary
God-one step of faith at a time.

Laying
the Foundation
In
1964, the Lutheran Church in Malaysia Singapore
(LCMS) acquired a church building and the surrounding
land in Setapak, marking the beginning of Christ
Lutheran Church.
In
1965, with the arrival of Pastor Justus Koo,
evangelistic work began among the local Chinese
community. Travelling by bicycle from house
to house, he faithfully shared the Gospel and
laid the spiritual foundations of what would
become a thriving congregation.
Development
in the early years were as follow:
-
Chinese
Youth Fellowship was established (1966)
-
Sunday
School began (1967)
-
A
new parish hall was built (1968)
-
Wee
Wisdom Child Care & Kindergarten was launched
These
ministries would shape generations of families
in the years to come.

Growing
Through Challenges
The
1970s and 1980s were years of both growth
and testing.
The
launch of the English Youth Fellowship in
1973 brought renewed enthusiasm, with youth
attendance growing rapidly. However, the church
later experienced a period of decline as differing
views on charismatic renewal affected the
congregation.
Despite
these challenges, God remained faithful.
Under
the leadership of Rev. Philip Tan, the church
embraced renewal and experienced steady growth
throughout the late 1980s and 1990s.
During
this season, with God's help following developments
were witnessed:
-
Worship
evolved to include contemporary expressions.
-
Attendance
exceeded 300 for the first time.
-
Sunday
School was revitalised.
-
Glorious
Children Church (GCC) was launched and later
became PowerFun, reaching hundreds of children.
-
The
church transitioned from a traditional to
a cell-structured model.
Through
every season, God continued to build His church.
